What kind of speakers are good for your computer but are not too expensive?

Posted by admin on June 6th, 2010 and filed under speakers | 1 Comment »

I have some speakers now and one of the speakers isn’t working anymore so I am looking at getting some new speakers for my computer. I know Bose is really good but it can get kinda pricey. Anyone have any good ideas for some solid speakers that aren’t terribly expensive?

See the link below for a great selection of Sony computer speakers. Sony knows how to do it right. If you can afford it I would recommend the set listed for $44.99. They would be awesome.

Does anyone know of any inspirational speakers?

Posted by admin on June 3rd, 2010 and filed under speakers | 2 Comments »

I am President of a small, non-profit charity group geared towards fundraising for local children in need. I am looking for guest speakers to speak at our monthly meetings. I have four slots to fill… each speaker need only speak once at one meeting…and the speakers need only speak for a half hour to an hour. I am looking for speakers involved with children, charities, or simply inspirational speakers, speakers who are disabled, etc… Does anyone know of any good speakers in the S. Shore (massachusetts) area I might be able to contact? Thank you so much for your help!

I know of a great speaker, but he is not in the S. Shore area.

How can I make speakers attatched to my laptop louder?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under speakers | 2 Comments »

I have a new laptop and I am trying to attach a pair of 125 watt speakers into the audio jack. I got 16 gauge wire, a super high-quality audio connector, which I soldered to the speaker wire. The whole thing is set up now and sounds great, but the 125 watt speakers can’t even go as loud as the internal notebook speakers. I have the system volume turned up to the maximum and there is not a volume control on the speaker units. Any ideas?

Sounds like the speakers aren’t preamped. The signal coming off your computer isn’t enough watts to push the speakers to high volume.

Computer headphone jacks usually push about 10-15 watts: WAAAY less than 125! You are going to need a preamp or a receiver. I’ve got my computer hooked up to my Pioneer receiver (via the headphone jack and a Monster cable that’s headphones on one side and RCA on the other – hooked up to the aux input on the receiver). The receiver is amping the sound so my 250-watt home theater speakers sound amazing!

Any audio amp/receiver with an aux in will work fine,and you can pick them up pretty cheap now.

Good luck!

How do you connect speakers to a subwoofer?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under speakers | 2 Comments »

The subwoofer has l/r speaker level out, l/r speaker level in and line in and line out jacks. I have five speakers. Can I connect the speakers directly to the subwoofer or do I need to get a reciever or is there an other way to connect the speakers?

You need a receiver to connect your speakers. L/R speaker level used to get signal from a receiver. How can you get audio signal from devices without receiver, you can’t connect directly subwoofer to device.

How can I connect four speakers to a mini system cheaply and safely?

Posted by admin on May 22nd, 2010 and filed under speakers | 2 Comments »

I want to use a cheap CD system to provide background music for a room. I don’t need fantastic sound and would prefer not to have to buy amps etc. My plan is to install four car speakers into the ceiling of the room and connect two to each output on the mini system.

The mini system has speakers with 6 ohm impedance. Can I wire two 12 ohm car speakers in parallel for each output without blowing the output amps of the system? An alternative would be to wire two 3 ohm speakers in series to each output, but I think the first speaker in the circuit would draw more power and hence the volume levels would be mis-matched. If I can’t find speakers of the required impedance rating, can I add resistors in parallel to them to achieve an overall resistance of 6 ohms?

Any suggestions? Anything else I need to take into consideration? Thanks.

OK you got it…But series doesn’t make one speaker noticabley quiter than the other.

Parrellel = 1/2 impedence
Series =X 2

You can have higher than 6 ohms with no damage to your speakers or amp (in your mini system)
but if you have less than 6 ohms you will blow your output transistors in the output stage of your amp.

Good luck it sounds like you won’t need it!
