What type of surround sound system would be best for me?

Posted by admin on July 29th, 2010 and filed under surround sound | 2 Comments »

I’m moving next week and I am wanting to purchase surround sound for the television in the living room. The room is 12×17. I don’t want to spend a boat load on it. I don’t want anything too fancy. I’m looking for a good sound and a product not overly priced. The most I’m willing to spend is $500 but I would I love to stay well below that. Thank you!

Amazon.com offers a wide variety of home theater setups. For the simplest set, while maintaining quality, go for a modestly-priced home theater-in-a-box kit. It comes with everything you’ll need to get started for an affordable price. Here’s an example you may be interested in, but there are other options; do some shopping and buy what you think is right for YOU.

How does a surround sound signal work?

Posted by admin on July 26th, 2010 and filed under surround sound | 4 Comments »

I’m wondering, for example, when I connect my phone to my TV’s receiver via a 3.5mm to stereo RCA cable and play music with my 5.1 channel surround sound on, how does it know which sounds to put in the rear speakers and the center speaker? Like, the input is only for a left and right, how does the tuner know what to output to the back? Is it in the stereo signal itself or does the tuner somehow calculate this itself?

The receiver understands what kind of audio stream is coming in (Dolby Digital, Dts, etc) and switches modes accordingly. When it sees something outside of what it understands, it will typically default to Dolby ProLogic where it uses an algorithm to determine what to send to what speakers. Anything common to the left and right speakers (for instance, voices) are sent to the center channel, left goes to the left speaker, right goes to the right speaker, then the surrounds are left and right delayed and put out of phase to make is sound like it’s coming from behind.
So yes, the receiver does all those calculations.

How do I get surround sound from my HDTV to my surround sound system?

Posted by admin on July 23rd, 2010 and filed under surround sound | 2 Comments »

Do I connect the digital optical audio out from the TV to the digital optical audio in on the surround sound system? Or do I need to connect the cable box out directly to the surround sound system in?

Also, can I get surround sound from HD TV channels with a Dolby Digital 5.1 system?

Connect optical cable directly from cable box to sound system for audio, this way you can get surround sound from HD channel with your 5.1 system.

WHy cant I get sound from my surround speakers?

Posted by admin on July 20th, 2010 and filed under surround sound | 5 Comments »

I purchased a Surround Sound DVD Home Theater System and I get surround sound (From all 5 speakers) when I play a DVD or listen to the built in AM/Fm or play a CD but when I get the audio signal from my new HDTV I can only get the sound from the 3 front speakers. Nothing but a him comes from the 2 rear speakers. I have my TV set to external and on stereo and my Home theater system set to surround but nothing. Is there maybe something I am missing. I am new to surround sound. I know the speakers are hooked up and work as they work with the built in stuff its just with the external device (my HDTV) .

If anyone has a thought please share. Thank you.

Refer to your owner’s manual. You should only have to adjust your receiver’s surround sound settings for the fix. Make sure all of your speaker connections are secure and your low-level connections are in the multi-channel receiver terminals.

*****READ FIRST*****
TURN ANNOTATIONS ON. HEADPHONES WILL NOT WORK BY PLUGGING BOTH ENDS INTO THE SOUND CARD. MIC JACK INTO THE USB SOUND CARD, AUDIO JACK INTO THE TV’S 3.5MM AUDIO OUTPUT JACK.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, READ THROUGH THE COMMENTS FIRST BECAUSE ITS LIKELY THAT THE QUESTION HAS ALREADY BEEN ASNWERED IN THE COMMENTS.

Showing you how you can get surround sound headphones working on your ps3. Also showing how to use the built in microphone to work via USB sound card.

***********************
I have tested these headphones in COD 5, COD 4, Killzone 2. The surround sound works perfectly with all of them. You can hear people sneaking up on you.

How do you get a surround sound system to give you sound after unplugging it to fix the DVD part of the unit?

Posted by admin on July 17th, 2010 and filed under surround sound | 1 Comment »

It’s a panasonic surround sound system. My 1 year old ejected the DVD holder and pulled it right out. I unplugged the cables to repair the unit, and after placing the cables correctly back we are unable to get the surround sound working, anyone have any ideas of what we may of done or should do to get it working?

Have you checked if the sound on the dvd player works from the same output on a different audio device (ie the TV’s speakers)? If so, then all I can really suggest is that you check that you have everything plugged in correctly, make sure that everything is going from outputs on the DVD player and inputs on the hifi. That’s all dead obvious though.

The only possible thing I can think of that isn’t obvious is if you are connecting your TV to your hifi using a scart socket, only one of the scart sockets has the ability to act as an output, so make sure you’re using the correct one.

Good luck!

How do I get surround sound for my cable on my old tv?

Posted by admin on July 14th, 2010 and filed under surround sound | 2 Comments »

hi i have a old tv which only has a yellow and white input location. my tv is connected to the standard cable that u get from one wire. I have a surround sound system currently connected to my tv but i can only use the surround sound system for watching dvds. how can i get the surround sound system to also work with my basic cable if my tv only has a white and yellow input spot? My surround system has a spot for av, component, hdmi, and a audio in input.

Without some type of cable/converter box, you won’t be able to send the receiver the required signal. You need a stereo connection (red, white) at bare minimum for even matrixed surround.
