I’ve got a surround sound receiver that I just want to hook up with a couple old cabinets for some music in the garage. Can’t seem to get good sound out of it no matter which speakers outputs I use. Can I use this like a plain old receiver?
You should hook up the speakers two the two main front speakers (L and R). You should get good sound, so if it isn’t good, I would suspect the speakers not the receiver.
Can a surround sound receiver be made to work with just 2 speakers for music only?

How do i enjoy 5.1 surround sound without having an optical cable on the back of the main unit?
I have a ps3 and i want to connect it by optical cable to the back of the surround sound unit. My surround sound main unit doesn’t have an input for this but i was wondering if there was another way around it still achieving 5.1?
The connections on the rear of the surround sound unit include:
Audio in (aux)
Video out
Scart.
That is it.
So is there a way to get 5.1 through any of those using a converter?
There is no way to get 5.1 surround sound from PS3 with your system.

Yes the white and red phono output fron your tv to the phono input of your cimema system is the best you’ve got.

How can I get my surround sound headphones repaired?
I have $200 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound headphones and I dropped them and the right ear’s sound is messed up, but the left one is fine. How can I get them fixed? I called a computer shop and they said they don’t do that.
Buy a new one, it’s not worth fixing. The repair cost is probobly more than buying a new one. Parts are inexpensive and labor is the most expensive.

Mark Levinson Surround Sound Demonstration 2007 Lexus ES350 Ultra Luxury
This is my 2007 Lexus ES350 with the ultra luxury package, it has a 14 speaker surround sound audio system with mp3 and DVD/DVD audio capabilities and an aux input. The only modification is a 12″ Kicker L5 and a 500W Rockford Fosgate Power Series amplifier that went in place of the stock subwoofer (which was just turned off) The car has the best sound system I have ever heard and is great with any and all types of music, any questions just post a comment, and feel free to search my channel on all the other videos of my car! I play some classical music to show how amazing the architecture of the speaker design is, then towards the end some Beatles “here comes the sun” and various things.

How do I know what surround sound is compatible with my LCD TV?
How do I figure out was surround sound systems I can begin to browse for so it works on my TV.
Are all surround sound systems compatible with every TV? I don’t think so. I don;t want to purchase a surround sound system if it isn’t compatible to my television. Let me know what you think.
Todd….the surround system is not based on your TV. You need to look at [1] how much sound do you want (loudness – not good if you are in an apartment) [2] how many components you want to hook up to it (Cable, DVD, Game, CD, Blu-Ray) and then [3] how much do you want to spend?
A good home theater receiver will have 5 or 6 inputs including a couple of HDMI’s and a couple component (RGB) inputs plus a few RCA – coax inputs. You then get a set of nice home theater speakers based on the room and your brand preference. You hook up all of you sources into the receiver and if it has internal HDMI switching then you just plug one HDMI input or optical cable to your TV and then everything is in surround provided the source your listening to is in surround. The TV volume is never used.
A home theater in a box (HTIB) is a very cheap and poor product. They typically have one input for alternate signals and its usually not HDMI. So its useless with a Blu-Ray player.
