How to hook up a surround system to a macbook?

Posted by admin on June 26th, 2010 and filed under surround | 1 Comment »

I am looking to find out how to hook up a Logitech X-540 surround system to my macbook with a stereo combined digital output. The system has three standard 1 subwoofer, 1 right and 1 left – all 1/8 plugs. Ho would I go about connecting this to my macbook?

Thanks!

If you’re willing to run Windows, and you have an Expresscard 54 slot, I’d highly recommend the Creative Sound Blaster x-fi notebook card. It’s incredible.
I dont bother with those cords anymore, I go SPDIF from this card to the Z-5500s. It’s great.
The card also has an accessory that plugs into it so you have your standard Green/Orange/Black/Pink plugs.

Take a look, anyway. It does up to 7.1 so you’re kind of futureproofing yourself.

How do I extend surround sound speaker cables?

Posted by admin on June 19th, 2010 and filed under surround | 4 Comments »

I’ve bought a surround sound system, Panasonic SC-PT850, but the cable for the rear speakers is too short.

Whats the best way to extend them? If I get another piece of audio wire, do I need to solder the 2 ends together or can I just twist them?

The best thing to do is just buy a new piece (longer) of the same gauge wire. When you join them sometimes the sound does not come out as clear as it would with a whole wire. Walmart has speaker wires cheap.

This is a great documentary provided to the World by the very wonderful people at The Learning Channel (TLC). It covers the secrets behind the activities that surround the mysterious hsitory of Area 51 also known as “Groom Lake” or “Dreamland”. Dreamland actually refers to the airzone where pilots cannot enter without permission or a secret clearance. The security at Area 51 is extremely tight, there are motion detectors everywhere, Black Helicopters, Camouflaged Soldiers armed with automatic weapons, and even cameras hidden within the rocky, sand filled desert area. This is a great documentary that tells amazing stories of people who have been harassed by security forces there and it also covers the infamous story of the Top Secret mountain base known as “S4″. S4 is a base where Mr. Bob Lazar, a physicist and rocket propulsion engineer worked at and was allowed to view flights of actual flying saucers. His story is incredible as well as this very educational program. You can make your own judgements on the criteria discussed within this documentary. THE TRUTH WILL SET US ALL FREE!

Can a fiberglass tub surround be removed and reunsed or will it break?

Posted by admin on June 17th, 2010 and filed under surround | 3 Comments »

We had a fiberglass tub surround installed and it was done very crooked with huge gaps. Can it be removed and reinstalled or will it break when we take it out?

if it was a very new one you might have a slight chance, but if it has been there a while it will mostlikely crack. the only way it can be saved is if it was only mounted with screws, sometimes plumbers use liquid nails to secure them.

What is the best surround system for around two hundred dollars?

Posted by admin on June 14th, 2010 and filed under surround | 2 Comments »

This is for a secondary tv that has an xbox 360, and dvd player hooked up to it. I want to be able to hook all these up and use the surround for watching tv too. IT doesnt have to be the best, just a pretty good system that will work with everying.

In that price range you should look for inputs and outputs as the deciding factor, you will get mediorce sound from a such a system.

Posted by admin on June 9th, 2010 and filed under surround | 1 Comment »

Does any one know how to replace the foam surround on a subwoofer? After years the foam surround on paper cones rots. Are there any good kits available to accomplish this?

There are dozens of places that you can get re-foaming kits and instructions. I have done several speakers with excellent results. You just have to be very careful. Here are a few links.
