How are Bose Surround Sound speakers different from regular speakers?
The info im really looking for is what is the effect of the Surround Sound.

They have a series of baffles that basically bounce the sound waves around to create constructive interference magnifying the signal several times.

How do i hook up a surround system with no hdmi to an hdtv and dvd player?

Posted by admin on June 3rd, 2010 and filed under surround | 3 Comments »

Can I run my dvd player to my tv via hdmi and than my tv to my receiver and play the sound from my dvd player to the surround that way? I am so lost… My surround sound system is an onkyo ht-s990thx 7.1 and my tv is a mitsubishi 1080p and my dvd player is a sony.

If your Sony DVD player has HDMI output, then yes, connect it to the TV’s HDMI input.

You didn’t say what model DVD player you have, but it probably doesn’t include audio in the HDMI output. For that you need a separate digital audio cable, which you’ll connect from the DVD player to the Onkyo receiver, not the TV.

There are two kinds of digital audio connections, optical and coaxial. Depending on what kind of output your DVD player has, you’ll need either a TOSlink optical cable or an RCA coaxial cable.

Using this cable, connect the DVD player’s digital audio output to the Onkyo receiver’s digital audio input (the Onkyo has both types). These cables are cheap, less than $5.

Then you’ll have great picture and sound, although you’ll have to switch the Onkyo to the correct audio input to hear the DVD audio.

How important is surround sound for a gaming headset?

Posted by admin on May 31st, 2010 and filed under surround | 2 Comments »

I am looking into getting a gaming headset for my PS3. I was planning on getting a TurtleBeach EarForce P21 but that is Stereo. I was wondering how important surround sound is for a gaming headset, like how much of a difference does it make?

It probably will make a difference if you are playing FPSs for being able to listen to where footsteps or shots came from.

How to wire Surround sound speakers to pc and xbox 360 and tv?

Posted by admin on May 29th, 2010 and filed under surround | 2 Comments »

Ive just received a new surround sound speaker system that is quite old but very good quality, It has a rca (red and white) to input my xbox 360, tv and pc. Is there a way to connect them all to the same system? What will i need? Thankyou very much

The only way is connect your XBox and TV to a surround receiver and use its input selector. Buying an input selector alone wont do you any good if it doesnt have an amp to power the speakers.

I have my HDTV, PS2, PS3, DVD, satelite box, DVR and xBox all running thru my Onkyo, and works awesome.

So if you dont have a surround receiver, then you will need to get one. Good luck.

How to make a fireplace surround using ceramic tile?

Posted by admin on May 22nd, 2010 and filed under surround | 2 Comments »

I am going to be making a fireplace surround and hearth using ceramic tile. Its a zero clearance wood burning fireplace. The walls where the surround will go is sheetrock and the hearth is wood-framed and raised off the floor 12". I have a pretty good idea how to start, but I am curious if anyone has any tips that I should know about. Maybe you have done this yourself? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

I ve done literally 100s of fireplaces. The ones that are raised up the 12 " that you say are a bit more challenging.Do the hearth 1st and let dry. You may or may not be able to line up the legs to the hearth, so don t worry if it doesn t ( most wont) Now the fun part..You ll just have to dry lay them out on the floor to see how they ll lay. You ll just have to see if you want to cut the to out side tile or one in th middle to make it fit, this you ll do top and bottom. The side legs you can cut the one coming down to the bottom or middle one or the top one going into the header. Any questions you can e mail me by clicking on my avitar . GL
Edit /add on.. You can either use a mastic or a thinset. Have the size spacers you want or need handy. I most commomly use eithe a pc of 1/4 inch luan that I have cut into pcs just foe this( I carry a coffee can of these at all times) or I use an 1/8 th inch spacer that are called wedges that you can but most any place that sells tile. again GL
