Racket Review — Head Youtek Speed Lite & Elite

In this video we review two tennis rackets — the Head Youtek Speed Lite and the Head Youtek Speed Elite. These rackets are good for intermediate players. The “Youtek” technology in these frames causes the rackets to become stiffer that faster you swing. Stiffer frames allow you to hit harder, so swinging the racket fast makes it more powerful. If you swing more slowly, the racket frame bends more at contact — absorbing more of the ball’s energy — increasing control and feel.

The Head Speed Lite & Elite were both very easy to swing. Both rackets also had a relatively big sweet spot and their open string patterns made it easy to generate topspin.

If you’re interested in demoing one of these rackets click the link above.

Why do people carry a lot of tennis rackets around with them?

Posted by admin on June 3rd, 2010 and filed under tennis rackets | 7 Comments »

Do people do that? I see that on Tennis Warehouse, PRINCE has tennis bags that carry up to 12 rackets.

Can anybody give me information on this? Why would people need 12 rackets at a time? Any scenarios?

Ex. different string tensions helps this-and-this; different frame sizes…etc.

Thanks a lot!

am using the Wilson Pro bag, which is the same as those pros, except Federer (as he has his OWN edition, white one). It claims it can hold up to 12 racquets, that I really doubt if anyone, even pro, would do so. For recreational warrior, like me, three are the most you might possibly need. Basically, the spare racquets are for in case the string broke during the match. I have never seen any match that any player needs to change more than three racquets…………So, I would say number of racquets to hold is just a figure for you to measure how big is the bag, it hardly means you need and must to stuff all 12 racquets to utilize it. What other space for?? I stuff a whole lot of thing in my tennis bag. Okay, here is my list (I posted this list in some other thread though):
1. 2 racquets
2. hat
3. 2 other shirts
4. 1 other shorts
5. several towels
6. elbow band (for my tennis elbow)
7. few bottles of water
8. sunglasses
9. few cans of Wilson titanium balls
10. car key
11. id. card
12. iPod
13. box of bandage
14. plastic zipperable bag for dirty shirt
15. extra dampeners
16. wrist bands
17. a photo of Fedex for worshipping before game (just kidding!~~ =D)

What is the best way to clean old tennis rackets?

Posted by admin on May 22nd, 2010 and filed under tennis rackets | 3 Comments »

I bought two old tennis rackets today from Goodwill. They are Spalding brand which I hear isn’t a good brand but they were super cheap and I’m just a beginner. What is the best way to clean them? They’re really nasty lol. Is water and soap going to mess up the string (or what ever the net part is called)? And is grip tape or or the slip on gauze better to use on the handle?

Certainly soap and water would help. I would not worry about the strings too much, they are likely to be synthetic. But, I recommend that you have these re-strung anyway; the strings are likely to be old and have lost all elasticity. You can have this done at most big-box sports stores or a local tennis club/boutique. They are likely to snicker at you (let them). You also will likely need a new grip, or, at the very least, an overgrip. Both can be bought at a local sports store as well. If you don’t know how to put the grip/overgrip on, see if you can find that on wikianswers or wikihow or just ask at the store to show you.

This will get you going. Having said this, you can pick up a decent quality racket for about 50 bucks – eBay, Craigslist, or some old demos at a local club/store.

Good luck with your tennis.
