My PS3 set-up/Home Theater set-up/Logitech Harmony 1100/Blu Ray/DVD/Xbox 360/Wii/ HD Projector???

Posted by admin on July 20th, 2010 and filed under home theatre | 25 Comments »

This is my home theater setup aka the man cave. Imma HUGE HUGE sports fan (go falcons!) so this room is dedicated to sports. I have the 65″ inch hdtv, and three 32″inch lcd tvs on top of that. This way, with nfl sunday ticket or nba league pass, I can watch all the games at once without missing a thing. Or I watch multiple sports all at one time. Mounted to the ceiling, I have a motorized 120″ inch projector screen 16:9 which comes down for the big sunday and monday nite football games, or when a big boxing or ufc fight is on. Now the components. Playstation 3, xbox 360, Wii, Pioneer surround sound,
5 Directv boxes, 3 lcd tvs, 65″ hdtv, universal remote, and a optima DLP projector. Im not really a gamer, I use to PS3 to watch blu ray movies, and I only play the 360 for madden football. I also have subwoofers underneath my couch for the full theater experience. The whole theater is controlled by my logitech harmony 1100 touch screen universal remote which can control pretty much anything.

Building a Home Theater PC (For Cornell Solar Decathlon)

Posted by admin on July 10th, 2010 and filed under home theatre | 25 Comments »

*** http://cusd.cornell.edu ***
This video demonstrates the construction of a Home Theater Computer. It was built by myself and other members of Cornell University’s Solar Decathlon Engineering Controls Team.

The computer utilizes a Core 2 Duo Processor at 3.0 GHz, a 128GB Solid-State Hard Drive, and a GeForce 9300 GPU included in its Nvidia 730i chipset. It will be served media content from a home server.

This computer was built with the following design goals in mind:
EFFICIENT POWER USAGE: Accomplished by using a low wattage CPU, A Solid State Hard Drive, an 80+ Certified PSU, and a motherboard with energy saving features.
EXTREMELY QUIET: Utilizes a Solid State Drive to eliminate hard drive vibrations, 2 silent 120mm fans, and an efficient case structure.
HD EXPERIENCE: Integrated GPU provides HDMI HDCP-enabled video output at full HD resolution, while reducing heat and power consumption because of the lack of video card, Gigibit Ethernet enables streaming of content from the house’s multimedia home server, 3GHz CPU provides ample headroom for video decoding.

This HTPC will be used in Cornell University’s Solar Decathlon competition in October 2009. Learn more about the team at http://www.cusd.cornell.edu
